Yahoo Alerts Benefits and Uses

Yahoo alerts can help you keep track of appointments and other scheduling issues. You can be notified by email, instant message or mobile phone.

When you sign up, you will be asked to select your desired delivery options, but you can change them at any time. Pull-down menus make the system user-friendly.

Creating an alert is simple. Once you have an account, you go to the alerts section and sign in. You select "create an alert" and follow the simple directions. There are two tabs, one on the right and one of the left-hand sides of the page. Either will work. There is no need to use both.

In addition to being alerted when you have an appointment or when it is someone's birthday, you can choose to be alerted when new articles are available. Links can be found on the financial, weather and other news pages.

You can receive notifications of breaking news or customized reports on any topic. For example, many people receive Yahoo travel alerts.

RSS feeds can be added to your basic Yahoo or Google pages to let you know about the top travel deals of the week. You can also receive Yahoo travel alerts in the traditional ways, via email or mobile phone. That kind of alert will usually focus on travel news or special interest stories concerning upcoming holidays or tourism.

Some people find that they are receiving too many alerts and wonder what to do. That could be because you chose the "as
they happen" option. As news stories are constantly published throughout the day, choosing that option could cause you to received dozens of emails in a matter of hours.

Yahoo recommends selecting the "once daily" option for any non-critical alert. That will reduce the number of emails you receive on a daily basis.

Google and other major search engines provide a similar service. You can use the calendars provided by your email provider or providers to set them up. You'll never forget an anniversary or special event again, as long as you check your email regularly.

You can choose the pop-up option provided by Google. This kind of alert will pop-up anytime you are online. Google does not currently have the mobile phone option, but instant messaging is available.

New options like Yahoo alerts help us become more organized. We can keep in touch with friends and loved ones, stay up-to-date on the latest news or get a notification when our favorite shows come on TV.
